- Demonstrate an ability to study at Level 5
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade 9–4 or A*–C) or Level 2 equivalents
- You must have the appropriate subject specialist qualifications in the area that you want to teach. Some subject areas also require industry experience to show competence
- Access to a teaching placement (minimum 250 hours over the course)
- 150 hours these hours are teaching practice and at least 100 hours must be in your subject area
- A second placement of minimum 20 hours (this will be discussed in more detail with the team)
- Assessment
Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence, including lesson plans, observations, and reflective accounts. There are no formal exams.
Also through a range of classroom tasks including presentations, group work, short activities and formative assessment tasks. There will be a minimum of 10 observations of year teaching practice across the two years. - Moving Forward

Unit 1 - Teaching my Subject This unit aims to develop learners’ knowledge, professional practice and skills in relation to teaching in a specialist area. The unit considers the philosophical and curriculum issues relating to education and teaching
Unit 2 - Understand learners in the Further Education sector The aim of this unit is to provide the learner with knowledge, understanding and skills relating to developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and teaching. It includes understanding learners’ needs, backgrounds, and areas of support, investigating practice in own area of specialism, applying theories, principles and models of learning and establishing inclusive teaching and learning.
Unit 03 - The role of Teachers and Teaching The purpose of this unit is to understand what makes a good teacher, identifying sources of support and sharing best practice with others. It also provides the learner with knowledge and understanding of teacher expectations, classroom management, curriculum development and the importance of communication.
Unit 04 - Professional Practice Portfolio This unit explores and records the professional skills required for the role of the teacher in further education. This will across the programme and link to your teaching practice and observations. The unit, broken down into three areas, will require competence in teaching practice, being a professional and the further education and skills sector.
Unit 05 - Effective digital and online pedagogies This unit aims to explore effective digital and online pedagogies. It includes discussing the advantages of digital, online and emerging technologies in the teaching environment, as well as the limitations of digital communication in own area of specialism. It also involves the importance of understanding learners’ needs and principles when developing digital resources and analysing their impact on learners.
